Some Common Uses: Native American Indians used black root to treat a variety of ailments including a laxative. Modern medicine used it to promote bile production in the liver and gall bladder.  It has properties as a chologaogue, cathartic, emetic, diaphoretic, laxative and anti-spasmodic.  Some studies show it has some affect on diarrhea, fever and back pain.
