Family: Araliaceas Some Common Names: Echinopanax horridus, Fatsia Horrida, Panax horridum.... Some Common Uses: in history, used for its pain relieving properties. The root bark and stem are analgesic, anti-rheumatic, blood purifier, cathartic, digestive aid, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-micro-bacterial properties. The root bark has been used to lower blood sugars, treat colds, and bronchitis. Topically it can be used as a salve on swelling, and as a poultice to nursing mother’s breasts to stop an excessive flow of milk Recently devil’s club’s botanical relationship to the well-known medicinal ginsengs (Panax ginseng, P. quinquefolius) has been used to increase its commercial appeal.
